MANDALORIAN HATRED FOR THE JEDI

Anonymous asked:

I love love love your tumblr site!!! I had a question. What is the brief history (canon please) of the Mandalorians hating and fighting against the Jedi? Like, religion or culture wise? Also, is it true Mandalorians hunted captured Jedi for sport in their past? And why in the future, would the new Mandos trust Qui-gon and his padawan to protect a young Satine, due to their history? Any sites to read on their war like past? thanks!!!

Hello, Anon!! Let me start by saying “thank you” for the lovely compliment! I’m so glad you like my blog!!!

Your ask is quite a question! There’s a very long, intricate history between the Mandalorians and the Jedi, but most of it is now considered Legends. That being said, there have been references made to Legends material in canonical context. For example, in The Clone Wars there are several murals in Sundari of the Mandalorian Wars (the war where the Jedi and Mandalorians engaged in bloody battle). Pre Vizsla also has a mural on Concordia.

So we know for certain there was war between the Jedi and the Mandalorians.

To make deciphering between Canon and Legends easier for all of us, I’ve decided to share this information through some videos. Star Wars Explained is an awesome vlog full of fascinating info. I highly recommend it.

I’ll put the videos in the order I find least confusing.

CANONICAL MANDALORE

LEGENDS MANDALORE

WHY WOULD MANDALORIANS TRUST QUI-GON AND OBI-WAN TO PROTECT SATINE KRYZE?

This is a really good question, Anon. Since we don’t have a canonical answer, I can only surmise. Here is the theory that makes the most sense to me:

Mandalore was engaged in civil war. The leadership wanted to embrace pacifism while the opposition wanted to reinvigorate the warrior culture. It’s not so far fetched that in a moment of great need the pacifist government would reach out to the Jedi (a group that prided itself on its reputation as peace keepers) to intervene. The Mandalorians in power could have appealed to the Jedi for help on the grounds that it would be mutually beneficial to prevent a warrior culture from coming to power in such a prominent system. Satine represented the future, and by asking the Jedi to help protect her, Mandalore was inviting the Jedi to be a part of that future.

It stands to reason that the Jedi would have seen protecting Satine as an opportunity to foster diplomatic relations with an old enemy. They had a reputation for being shrewd yet exceptional warriors, and would make the perfect body guards during such a political nightmare. Mandalorians needed someone strong enough to protect the Duchess, but diplomatic enough to leave when the job was finished. Hiring mercenaries or reaching out to another organization would have put Mandalore at risk politically, economically, and culturally.
